Grief is a Frequency Too

We treat grief like a glitch. But grief moves at its own resonance, and it has things to teach us that joy simply can't reach.

We talk a lot about raising our frequency. High vibes. Positive thoughts. Gratitude. Joy. Love. Expansion. And yes. Give me all of those things.

But somewhere along the way, I think we got a little confused. We started treating certain emotions as evidence that we're doing life right and other emotions as evidence that something has gone wrong.

Especially grief.

Grief enters the room and suddenly everybody wants to know how quickly we can get it to leave. How do we heal it? Release it? Move through it? Get back to ourselves?

But what if grief isn't taking you away from yourself?

What if grief is a frequency too?

Not every frequency needs to be raised

This is one of the places where "high vibe only" spirituality loses me. Because we're human. We didn't come here to experience one emotional frequency. We came here capable of experiencing an entire spectrum: joy, rage, wonder, fear, desire, heartbreak, pleasure, grief, love. Sometimes several of them before lunch.

Your sadness doesn't mean your frequency is wrong. Your anger doesn't make you less spiritual. Your grief isn't evidence that you've somehow fallen out of alignment.

You're having a human experience. And your humanity doesn't need to be spiritually bypassed. It needs enough space to move through.

Grief has its own resonance

If you've ever been inside real grief, you know it has a vibration all its own. You can feel it in the body—the heaviness in your chest, the ache behind your eyes, the sound that comes from somewhere deeper than language, the way time seems to change.

Grief doesn't care about your schedule. It doesn't care whether you thought you were "done" grieving. It can disappear for months and walk through the door because a song played in the grocery store.

And honestly? I think there is something sacred about that.

Because grief is evidence that something mattered. Someone mattered. A relationship mattered. A dream mattered. A version of you mattered. A life you thought you were going to live mattered. Even our transformations carry grief because becoming often asks us to say goodbye to something we once knew.

Joy can't teach us everything grief can, just as grief can't teach us everything joy can. They aren't competing frequencies. They're different notes in the experience of being alive.

You don't have to make grief beautiful

I don't think we need to romanticize grief either. Sometimes grief is fucking awful.

Sometimes there isn't a lesson hiding inside it. Sometimes you don't need to find the gift. Sometimes you don't need to turn your pain into purpose. Sometimes the most sacred thing you can do is let something hurt because it hurts.

To breathe. Cry. Rage. Be quiet. Make sound. Be held. Be alone. Sleep. Walk outside. Put your hand on your heart. Let your body tell the truth.

And trust that the frequency will move when it's ready to move. Not because you forced it out, but because you allowed yourself to experience it.

You are allowed to be here too

Maybe healing isn't about learning how to stay in the frequencies we prefer. Maybe it's about expanding our capacity to be with ourselves through all of them.

To know: I can experience grief and still be whole. I can feel anger and still be loving. I can be heartbroken and still be connected to something larger than me. I can laugh in the middle of grieving without betraying my grief. I can feel joy again without leaving behind what I loved.

There is room for all of it. There is room for you in all of it.

So if you're in a season of grief, I'm not going to tell you to raise your vibration. I'm going to remind you that grief has a frequency too.

Let it hum. Let it ache. Let it speak. And when another note begins to rise beside it because eventually one will—you don't have to choose between them.

You get to be the whole song.

What might change if you stopped asking your grief to leave and asked what it might want for you instead?

Huge hugs & divine love,
Morgan
